Tune In, Hook Up
"I've got to make sure YouTube comes down to tape this"

Today, we’re dialing the time machine to February 14th, 2005. If somebody says, “That was 20 years ago”, I’m thinking of the 1980s. But 20 years ago was 2005…🤯
2005 welcomed some of the best television comedy series of all time, including NBC’s The Office. If you enjoy this newsletter, send it to someone you know who loves The Office (we all know someone).
Let’s Go! 🚀

February 14th, 2005 📆
On February 14th, 2005, founders Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim activated the website “www.YouTube.com.” YouTube was initially designed as a video-dating website, and it was given the slogan “Tune in, Hook up.” But the concept never gained steam, so the trio dumped the video-dating idea and opened up the site for anyone to upload any video.
A study done by The Atlantic in 2004 estimated that there are over 14 billion videos on YouTube. It’s nearly impossible to know just how many hours of content exists on the site, but it’s estimated that 500 hours of video are uploaded every minute. In fact, I’m willing to guess that every single person reading this newsletter right now has been on YouTube.
