Today, we’re dialing the time machine to March 24th, 2005. Today was the premiere of NBC’s The Office, and fans of the British series were thinking they had Déjà vu.

20 years ago today, the world of sitcom television was changed forever with the premiere of The Office on NBC. “Pilot” was written by Stephen Merchant, Greg Daniels, and Ricky Gervais, who played David Brent (the equivalent of Michael Scott) in the British version of the show.
Although not a complete shot-for-shot remake of the first episode of the British version, there were striking similarities. We were introduced to Michael Scott’s incredibly awkward management style, Jim’s pranks on Dwight (personal favorite - Jim impersonating Dwight), the captivating design of the Scranton Business Park, and the gentleman that is Todd Packer.
The Office (U.S.) would go on for nine seasons, ending its run with “Finale” on May 16th, 2013. It is generally regarded as one of the top comedy series in history, winning 5 Primetime Emmys and 59 awards in total. Although we can all agree, the show wasn’t the same after Michael left in season 7…
