"Three Days of Peace and Music"

In partnership with

Today, we’re dialing the time machine to August 15th, 1969. Today, the sleepy little town of Bethel, New York (pop. ~3,900) welcomed nearly 500,000 guests for this little event called Woodstock.

If you know someone who was in attendence at Woodstock in 1969, forward them this newsletter. (and tell them to subscribe to On This Day 🙏)

Let’s go! 🚀

August 15th, 1969 📆

On August 15th, 1969, a quiet dairy farm in Bethel, New York, transformed into the most famous patch of muddy grass in music history: Woodstock. What was billed as “An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music” quickly became four days - because rock stars and schedules have never been close friends. Nearly 500,000 people showed up (many without tickets) turning the planned concert into a free-for-all of flower crowns, bell bottoms, and questionable camping arrangements.

The lineup was legendary: Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and dozens more. But the real headliner might have been the weather, which alternated between sunny bliss and torrential rain. Food ran out, sanitation was… optimistic, and traffic jams stretched for miles. Yet, somehow, spirits stayed high. Possibly helped by an unusually relaxed approach to “recreational” activities.

Woodstock became more than a music festival; it was a cultural milestone, a chaotic yet oddly harmonious snapshot of the 1960s counterculture. It proved that half a million strangers could coexist in relative peace if you mix enough music, idealism, and tie-dye. And that dairy cows make surprisingly patient concert neighbors.

Just For Fun 🙃

Today in Donelson, Tennessee, Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers officially opened it’s doors. Fried fish AND hamburgers at the same fast food restaurant? Yes, please. The concept was so popular it became a nationwide franchise and rebranded to Captain D’s in 1975.

Today, Captain D’s has over 530 locations across the U.S.

OOTD On This Day🧢

Speaking of Woodstock, there was some serious fashion on display in those fields. Shoes optional.

Happy Birthday🎂

U.S. Senator John Fetterman was born TODAY! Politics aside - wearing a Carhartt jacket for your official Senate photo is bolder than the outfits worn at Woodstock.
