April 11th, 1954 🥱
The most boring day in history, according to science.

Today, we’re dialing the time machine to April 11th, 1954. I don’t generally dial the time machine this far back, but when I read that a computer scientist analyzed over 300 million facts and declared today the most boring day in history, I knew it would make for an exciting newsletter.
You know what else is scientifically proven? Sharing feels good. So do me a favor and share this newsletter with your friends, and in return I’ll share with you the fun rewards at the bottom of this email.

April 11th, 1954 📆

April 11, 1954, holds the peculiar distinction of being labeled "the most boring day in history." This conclusion was reached by Cambridge scientist William Tunstall-Pedoe, who used his search engine, True Knowledge, to analyze over 300 million facts about people, places, and events from the 20th century. His algorithm determined that this particular Sunday was remarkably uneventful.
Brace yourself, here are five notable events of today’s date:
The birth of Turkish academic Abdullah Atalar
The 1954 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship opened with the first round of the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship.
The death of English footballer Jack Shufflebotham
Italian driver Piero Scotti secured victory in the 1954 Coppa della Toscana race
In a Belgian election, the Christian Social Party won 95 out of 212 seats in the Chamber of Representatives and 49 out of 106 seats in the Senate.
The irony is that this day’s very lack of excitement has made it historically interesting. Its honestly refreshing in today’s world, and serves as a reminder that not every day in history needs to be marked by drama or significance.
We could all use a quick nap in a convertible because we have nothing better to do. 🤷♂️
